CELL BIOLOGY. For the article ‘‘Breast cancer bone metastasis mediated by the Smad tumor suppressor pathway,’’ by Yibin Kang, Wei He, Shaun Tulley, Gaorav P. Gupta, Inna Serganova, Chang-Rung Chen, Katia Manova-Todorova, Ronald Blasberg, William L. Gerald, and Joan Massagué, which appeared in issue 39, September 27, 2005, of Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA (102, 13909–13914; first published September 19, 2005; 10.1073 pnas.0506517102), the authors note that ‘‘Fig. 2B shows SCP3 cells transduced with a vector constitutively expressing red fluorescent protein (RFP, Upper) and a vector expressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) under the control of a TGFresponsive promoter (Lower). An erroneous, unpaired set of images was used in the TGFpanels of the previously published version of this figure.’’ The corrected figure and its legend appear below. This correction does not affect the conclusions of the article.

Breast cancer bone metastasis mediated by the Smad tumor suppressor pathway.
TGF-beta can signal by means of Smad transcription factors, which are quintessential tumor suppressors that inhibit cell proliferation, and by means of Smad-independent mechanisms, which have been implicated in tumor progression. Although Smad mutations disable this tumor-suppressive pathway in certain cancers, breast cancer cells frequently evade the cytostatic action of TGF-beta while retaini...
متن کاملCCN6 modulates BMP signaling via the Smad-independent TAK1/p38 pathway, acting to suppress metastasis of breast cancer.
CCN6 (WISP3) is an extracellular matrix protein that exerts tumor suppressive functions in breast cancer, where its decreased expression is a feature of advanced disease. However, neither its role nor mechanism of action in breast cancer metastasis has been established. Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), which constitute ligands of the TGF-β superfamily, are multifunctional cytokines that indu...
متن کاملLong non-coding RNA FOXO1 inhibits lung cancer cell growth through down-regulating PI3K/AKT signaling pathway
Objective(s): Lung cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors, which seriously threatens the health and life of the people. Recently, a novel long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) termed lncFOXO1 was found and investigated in breast cancer. However, the effect of lncFOXO1 on lung cancer is still ambiguous. The current study aimed to uncover the functions of lncFOXO1 in l...
متن کاملThe Effect of Interval Training on the Expression of Tumor Suppressor Gene, Systemic Inflammation, and Tumor Volume in Breast Cancer–Bearing BALB/c Mice
Introduction: E-cadherin is expressed in most normal epithelial tissues. Loss of E-cadherin can cause dedifferentiation and invasiveness in human carcinomas, leading E-cadherin to be classified as a tumor suppressor. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of interval training on the expression of tumor suppressor gene E-cadherin in breast cancer-bearing BALB/c mice. Meth...
متن کاملبررسی بیان ژن مهارکننده توموری TUSC1 (Tumor suppressor candidate gene 1) در نمونههای بافتی سرطان پستان و همراهی آن با میزان تومورزایی
Introduction: Breast cancer remains the prominent cause of mortality in women. Several biomarkers are used to evaluation the response and targeting to therapy. Tumor suppressor candidate 1 (TUSC1) gene was newly identified as a probable tumor suppressor in human cancers. Nevertheless, the expression and potential function of TUSC1 in breast cancer stay undecided. Therefore, this study aimed the...
